Handi Quilter released a redesigned, easier-to-use ruler base at Spring Quilt Market last week — the Easy-Fit Ruler Base. There is a version of the Easy-Fit Ruler Base for the HQ Avanté, HQ Fusion, and HQ Sixteen.
Because of the nature of aluminum machine castings and the variable paint thickness, on occasion there was a mismatch between a ruler base and the machine. Well, that will happen no more!
Plus there is no longer a need to flex the ruler base when installing it on the machine. The new ruler base is made from a more rigid acrylic because the new design makes it easier to attached to the machine. You simply set the ruler base over the front of the machine and slide it back. If your machine has some variance in paint thickness, the fit of the ruler base can be customized using different thicknesses of Velcro loop tape.

With the new acrylic material, it sounds so much easier to slide back onto the machine! I’m always looking for custom rulers, so it’s good to know I can make sure it’s the right thickness. In the future, I’ll check out these easy-fit ruler bases to avoid mismatched ruler bases and machines.
I purchased an Avante a few years ago, got a package deal from my local dealer and the ruler base was included. The old one that needed to be flexed to put in place. Learning the machine, gaining confidence in quilting, I decided to buy some rulers and try the ruler base just last month. It would not fit no matter how I tried, and I ended up breaking it in half. I was heartbroken! So, I began looking for a new one and found the article that the ruler base was redesigned in 2016 and introduced at Quilt Market, before checking the HandiQuilter site. I will check the site first next time. And, the new ruler base is on my wish list! Love my Avante!
