Basics Retreat

Get to know your Handi Quilter longarm machine. We will cover the fundamental basics of: cleaning, maintaining, threading, tensioning, loading, and basting your quilt. Next, we’ll have some fun learning basic free-motion quilting designs and then move on to using rulers/templates.

This retreat is taught on HQ Amaras (One person to a machine).  However, the techniques are applicable to all HQ longarm machines.

  • All kits, fabric, thread and supplies will be provided for the retreat.
  • Classes begin at 9:00 am each day. On Day 1 and Day 2, classes end at 5:00 pm followed by a dinner.
  • Day 3, class will end at 12:00 pm followed by a lunch.
  • An outgoing flight after 3:00 pm gives you time to make your flight.
  • Cost is $1,295 per person.
  • 3 lunches, 2 dinners and an educator trunk show.

Pro-Stitcher
Basics Retreat

Join us for a great overview of Pro-Stitcher Premium, including how to start, open and save designs, and navigate menus. You’ll explore areas and how to fit designs using skew and align as well as how to repeat, resize, and rotate. We’ll finish off with the ins and outs of edge to edge designs.

After this introduction, you will have the confidence to move forward with your Pro-Stitcher quilting journey.

  • All kits, fabric, thread and supplies will be provided for the retreat.
  • Taught hands-on on the latest version of Pro-Stitcher Premium on the HQ Amara. One person per machine.
  • Classes begin at 9:00 am each day. Day 1 and Day 2 classes will end at 5:00 pm followed by a dinner. Day 3 class will end at 12:00 pm followed by a lunch.
  • An outgoing flight after 3:00 pm gives you time to make your flight.
  • Cost is $1,295 per person.
  • 3 lunches, 2 dinners and an educator trunk show.

PS Designer
Basics Retreat

Learn the basics of PS Designer. We’ll start with an overview of the software then learn how to navigate within Designer. We’ll construct a sampler by creating and editing designs utilizing many of the available tools. Learn how to audition designs using backdrop photos. If you are interested in learning the basic tools and functions of Designer, this is the place to start.

  • Bring your computer with the latest version of PS Designer installed.
  • Be sure to bring a mouse, keyboard (if possible), and a charger.
  • Classes begin at 9:00 am and go until 5:00 pm followed by a dinner on Thursday. Classes end at 4:00 pm on Friday.
  • An outgoing flight after 7:00 pm gives you time to make your flight.
  • Cost is $1,095 per person
  • 2 lunches and 1 dinner included.

Travel

Plan your travel to arrive at the Salt Lake City, Utah the night before the retreat begins.
If you are flying, use the Salt Lake International Airport (SLC)

Ground Transportation

For those who are staying at the host hotel and request the shuttle, Handi Quilter will provide transportation to/from the hotel and Handi Quilter. The shuttle will leave the hotel at 8:45 am each day. Be in the hotel lobby ready to leave by 8:40 am. If driving, plan to arrive at Handi Quilter at 8:55 am each morning.

Meals

Lunches will be catered at Handi Quilter daily.
Dinner is provided the first two nights for 3 day retreats and the first night for two day retreats.
There are also many restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. 

Items to Bring

Jacket/sweater as the temperature fluctuates.
Comfortable shoes (you will be doing a lot of standing and quilting)
For PS Designer only: Laptop with PS Designer.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to change your registration more than 4 weeks before the event, you are welcome to transfer your registration to another retreat within the next 12 calendar months.
If you wish to transfer your registration less than 4 weeks before the event, you may transfer your registration to another retreat within the next 12 calendar months upon payment of the $250 transfer fee. This transfer fee is waivable upon extenuating circumstances (such as a military deployment.) ​ No-shows will not be given a transfer option.
