Do you remember the Seeing Stars Quilt-along from last year? You can read about it on past blog posts here and here and here and here and here. I chose yellow for my quilt and my friend, Pam, chose a red, white and blue palette. I have a Seeing Stars update for you.
Pam’s Quilt
Her quilt turned out great! She added some pieced gold stars to the original pattern.
Pam decided to donate her quilt to the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Their mission is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing quilts. And the quilts say unequivocally, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.”
The Award
A very distinguished veteran received Pam’s quilt. It was a special occasion, as the veteran, Dr C., was recognized both for his extraordinary service and for turning 100 years old!

Dr. C’s life is nothing short of extraordinary. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, this young man knew he wanted to answer the call of duty. As a naval aviator, Lt. J.G. C courageously served our nation, patrolling the pacific northwest throughout the war while stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. After his military service, Mr. C returned to Georgia, to attend the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia. He then opened his own veterinary practice in Athens, Ga., and later returned to the university as a professor. Leaving a remarkable impact on his students and the University of Georgia community.”
“What a surprise, what a surprise,” said Dr. C, surprised and thankful for the quilt and recognition. “I’m not finished yet,” Dr. C said to the crowd of attendees about his next adventure in life.
He thanked everyone for all they had done to make his 100th birthday special. And the true optimist he wanted everyone to know that although he’s accomplished a lot in his life, there is still more to come. So stay tuned.
“I’m not finished yet,” Causey repeated.
Somehow quilts make our world a bit smaller and friendlier, and bring people together. It just makes me smile to think Handi Quilter had a small part in honoring this great American citizen.
