I was lucky enough to work at the AQS Quiltweek show in Daytona Beach, FL a few weeks ago. I love to take the time to look at the quilts when I’m at a show. As I walked the aisles of gorgeous quilts I noticed a similarity with many of the quilts. I was seeing quilts that fly! Or, specifically, the subject matter of the quilts.
I love to share quilts from shows here on the blog so that you can get inspired right along with me. So, here goes!
Dripping with Honey
Dripping with Honey by Deana Steel of Twin Falls, ID
This quilt just has it all! Beautiful piecing, perfect applique, dimentional elements, really cool quilting, great use of color.

Oh Sweet Nectar of Life
Oh Sweet Nectar of Life by Yvette Suzanne Sullivan of Ontario, Canada
I love the gentle motion of the background quilting.
Kestrel
Kestrel by Melanie Marr of Houston, TX
The appliqued bird looks so real! I’m not sure what technique was used. Fussy cut? Painted fabric?
Luna in the Sky
Luna in the Sky by Ann-Marie Miro of New Smyrna Beach, FL
Once again very realistic with a dimentional element. I really like dimentional additions to a quilt. Do you?

Nice pebbling! The varied sizes of the pebbles add an extra texture.
The Last Call
The Last Call by Kestrel Michaud of Melbourne, FL
The interesting perspective of this quilt gives it an especially chilling quality.
Above the Dahlias / Sobre las Dalias
Above the Dahlias / Sobre las Dalias by Montse Forcadell Blasco of Catalonia, Spain
This quilter chose the most amazing fabrics. Check out the great fabric choice for the green butterfly!

Magnificent Morning
Magnificent Morning by Joanne Baeth of Bonanza, OR
I thought this quilt was so serene. That’s a lot of applique!
And there were many quilts in the Cherrywood Challenge display with wings! The theme for 2023 was Monarch.
From Quilt to Butterfly
From Quilt to Butterfly by Karen Coates of Highland, CA
Loved that tessellating quilting design on the black!
A Rare White Monarch

Hope you enjoyed a little taste of the quilt show! Which was your favorite?
Remember to Quilt Every Day!
by Mary Beth Krapil
“The Last Call” looked like a painting. However, my favorite is “Preening on a Beautiful Day”
what amazing talent. I am in Awe of all these creative quilters.
