Thank you for your interest in becoming a technician for Handi Quilter machines! I am Ty Weedop, the Senior Technical Trainer here at Handi Quilter, and I will be your primary instructor through this online training course. I believe that to be a successful technician, you first need to be familiar with the product that you are working on. This means not only what components the machine is built from, but how the product is used, the way the individual components need to interact with each other, and what behavior is to be expected and unexpected from the machine or components that you are working on. Through this course, we will be starting at this fundamental level of understanding our company as well as our machines and their purpose, the ability to maintain and service them, and Identify problems and solve problems.

To get started, let’s briefly cover some of Handi Quilter’s History.

Handi Quilter was started in 1998 by Laurel Barrus out of a desire to have a portable quilting frame. This frame was adopted by many excited quilters and Laurel quickly recognized the need in the market for something better to quilt with. Following the original Handi Quilter portable quilting frame, the HQ Sixteen was created with a release date in 2003, this introduced the first Handi Quilter longarm machine. This machine was produced in several different variations that included stationary and free motion machines and in 2004 stitch regulation was also introduced.

From The launch of the HQ Sixteen machine in 2003, Many more longarm machines were to follow.

Now there are many longarm machines that Handi Quilter has produced.  With such a wide variety of machines in our line up, Handi Quilter has started an initiative to consolidate our machines into 3 families of machines that cover all the possible variations of machines that quilters enjoy. These families are the Moxie, Amara and Infinity families.

Pro Stitcher

In 2007, Handi Quilter introduced the HQ Pro-Stitcher. This computerized robotics system can integrate with Handi Quilter longarm quilting machines. It allows the user the option of computerized quilting while also keeping the option for the quilter to use their longarm machine freehand.
