Hello Longarm Quilting Educator!

Thank you for your interest in the Handi Quilter Field Educator program.

Below, we have shared information about the program. Please be sure to familiarize yourself with our program. If you’d like to learn more about us and how we work with freelance educators, please fill out this form and submit it to us. We’ll respond to let you know that we’ve received your application and if we’d like to schedule a phone interview.

Handi Quilter Field Education Program

Handi Quilter seeks longarm quilting educators to teach classes and work shows and events in the U.S. and Canada and around the world. Handi Quilter is the #1 selling longarm manufacturer in the world and is a company that emphasizes the importance of education, training, and supporting their customers and retailers.

Educators come from a variety of backgrounds, including (but not limited to!) K-12 and college instructors with a passion for longarm teaching, former sewing or fabric shop owners and employees, longarm business owners, quilt pattern designers, homemakers and caregivers, etc.

Quilters are diverse, and so are the experiences of our National Educators!

Quilters of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply!

Consideration is given to quilters of any age, who have longarm quilting experience (computerized quilting knowledge a plus), teaching ability, and the physical stamina to stand, to travel, to teach all day or to work in a show booth. You must be personable, confident and a strong English speaker. Considering our international presence, competency in other languages is a plus.

Experience with HQ Machines & Teaching

Handi Quilter Field Educators are independent freelancers, not Handi Quilter employees. Handi Quilter retailers hire educators to teach at their stores or to help them in a show booth. All HQ educators teach a prescribed set of HQ classes  and provide their own class samples and handouts. Many offer their own classes, as well. Educators must attend training to become familiar with the entire Handi Quilter line of machines, frames and accessories and must use a Handi Quilter machine in their own home while teaching for HQ.

Social Media & Tech Proficiency

Handi Quilter also asks that educators be comfortable using email to communicate, as well as social media to share their work as a quilter and educator. This does not mean applicants need to have an online following, but Educators are expected to know how to post to Facebook, Instagram, etc. Additional training can be provided for those looking to level up their skills.

Travel & Time Commitment

This is not a fulltime working opportunity. Educators accept only as many engagements as they wish, but most travel at least 1-3 times a month, usually on weekends (when stores prefer to offer events and when quilt shows are open). Educators are paid a daily rate while working and their expenses are reimbursed via an invoicing process. Educators should be comfortable navigating new airports, car rental or rideshare processes, and be adapatable to travel changes.

Kim Sandberg, Education Manager at Handi Quilter, also gave a podcast interview about the Handi Quilter National Educator Program. You can listen to it HERE!
